Not only was Hazel the by-product of another unwanted litter of pups, she could have been the Poster Pup in the fight against irresponsible pet owners. Her former owner fail in getting her adult dogs spayed or neutered, which led to Hazel's litter. She also failed to  provide the pups with any of the vaccinations, de-wormings or any other basic care before giving the pups away to anyone who wanted one without first making sure they could  have a pup or were even responsible enough to care for a young puppy. The young lady that took Hazel was one such person who had no knowledge of how to care for a puppy and tried to return Hazel when she first started displaying signs that something wasn't right with her. But the former owner (who claimed to be a rescuer) refused to take Hazel back and told the young lady that she "...needed to learn basic pet care" then turned her back on Hazel and her adopter. When Hazel was brought to SoCo, we noticed that she wasn't feeling well and immediately began treating her for worms, parasites and tapeworm infestation. During her treatments, Hazel fell deathly sick and was found to have parvo (we later found out that some of her siblings also had parvo and had passed away). We treated Hazel in-house for all of her ailments and are happy to report that she made a full recovery.

Since her near-death experience, Hazel has enjoyed living a normal, healthy and happy life. She's a very affectionate puppy who thrives on human contact and loves playing with her puppy pals Dexter and Easter. She has such soft fur and loveable eyes that there's no doubt she'll capture your heart in an instant. Hazel will make a great family companion and will do well around children who are old enough to properly handle a young pup.

While her illness threw her off scheduled on her vaccinations, she has now been caught up and is up to date. She's also been de-wormed, treated against parasites and started on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Her adopter must agree to having Hazel spay once she reaches 6 months of age and providing verification of such to our rescue. Hazel will require all of her basic training.
