**GiGi will be available for adoption at Rosedale Mills, in Pennington, NJ, over the July 28-30 weekend**

On a very hot July afternoon, someone tied a plastic bag around GiGi's head and then threw her onto a man's property. When the man returned home from work, he found this month old pup in some shrubs and near death. The pup's head was busted open and bleeding. The man tried his best to give her care but when her head began to swell, so much that she couldn't open her eyes, he brought her to SoCo seeking help. GiGi was immediately taken to our vet.

It took about a week for the swelling to reside so GiGi could begin to open her eyes. It took another two weeks before she gained control over her motor skills and could balance herself but once the swelling to her head resided, she began to walk and balance herself much better. We're still not sure if the abuse she suffered has left any permanent mental damage but do know that it has left her most likely 100% blind.

Despite being blind, GiGi is quick to learn her way around a room. Sure there are the occasional bumps into walls or tripping over steps, but it's as if her other senses have stepped up and are helping her "see". Our vet did exam her eyes and said, at best, she may be able to see "shadows up close" but her eyes didn't flutter or respond to typical eye test.

GiGi loves playing with other pups and is very people friendly, but her first inclination is to "teeth-play" so we'd not recommend any small children be around her. She's not aggressive, it's just without the ability to see, we think she tries to grab everything.  She loves playing with toys, sleeping on her bed and getting cuddled by people just as a pup with sight.

GiGi is going to be a large dog  so she will need room to play. She will need her basic training but is accustomed to staying in an exercise pen. Her adopter must agree to having her spay by the time she reaches 6 months and providing proof of such to us.

Many people may have pity on GiGi, but her adopter must be willing and experienced in handling a blind dog. Applications for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue.com and any questions about her or her future care can be addressed to socorescue@yahoo.com
