Are you looking for a companion dog that's affectionate and independent?  Do you want somebody to help you get your steps in?  Anna might be a good match for you!

This is what Anna's foster mom has to say:

Anna is a sweet and gentle dog who loves affection.  She greets us every morning with a wagging tail and request for belly rubs.  Right from the start she's been very easy for us, house trained and able to be alone. She likes being with us but not on us.  Anna does not jump, bark or chew.  At first she only stayed in the living room but nows comfortably roams the whole house.

Anna is bashful with new people and in new situations.  Once she is familiar with people, sounds and places, she becomes calm and confident.  At the rescue, Anna was fearful of thunderstorms and a sedative was used to ease her anxiety.  We recently had a mild thunderstorm and while she was restless, she was easily comforted so she will likely do better in storms once she is bonded and feels safe around her people.

Her favorite activity is walking in the woods.  She walks great on leash but sometimes wants to go her own way or chase a squirrel but can easily be coaxed to stay on trail.  Every day we take her to parks to get used to the car and to get more comfortable with walking around people and other dogs.  She is doing great with both.  She has done well on our trips to Tractor Supply for Adoption Day.  She is overweight, likely due to sendentary lifestyle, but already seems to have shed a few pounds.  Daily walking will be a must in her new home.

In Georgia, Anna was kenneled for quite a while with her siblings and got a long well until they started picking on  her and she had to be separated.  She meets other dogs with interest and hesitation and does well with on-leash meetings and parallel walking.  She has not yet shown any interest in playing but she may do well with dogs of similar energy and gentle play style.

Anna bonded quickly with me and is now very devoted. Right now she is sleeping at my feet.   It took a bit more time with my husband as he does not spend as much time with her and might be a bit more intimidating.  Now when she sees him, she wags her tail and comes for a pet.  Anna would do good in a home that's on the quiet side.  She likes walks and does not need a yard.  She plays tug-fetch for short bursts, loves scent games, most of the time content sitting in the sun or napping.  She will need someone with love to give, patience and an understanding of gradual exposure as she gradually gets used to her new surroundings.

We know someone is on their way to Anna.  And that person will certainly be very fortunate to have this loving, faithful, devoted companion to walk through life together!

After an elderly lady lost her husband, she became so distraught that she moved away from her home and left 5 dogs behind. Two of the dogs were actually her dogs, the other three, Anna, Elsa and Boy Boy, were all stray dogs that had taken up residence at her home. While the then two year old siblings had found a place to get a steady meal, clean water and shelter, they were very apprehensive of all people, which prohibited them from getting any needed vet care. Elsa and Boy Boy suffer from an untreated skin issues which still has them unable to regrow fur over parts of their bodies.

Over the next couple of years, the SoCo staff worked to help Anna and her siblings overcome their hesitation with people. Their efforts have now led to Anna becoming ready  to meet that special person or family that awaits and live in her forever true home.

Anna has been fully vetted and was kept up to date on her vaccinations and preventative care since she arrived at our rescue. She's also consistently tested negative for heart worms.  Bring much joy into your heart by offering this very special girl the first real home that she's ever had.

*It is our recommendation that Anna be kept on a chicken-free diet and with the use of Bravecto 3 month flea/tick preventative. Fish oil and/or a fish blend of food is great for a dog's skin and coat. Anna also has a fear of storms, which we've addressed with the use or Trazodone or similar mild sedatives.
